Frequently Asked Questions
A Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®) is a financial professional trained specifically in the financial complexities of divorce. Where your attorney focuses on the legal process, a CDFA focuses on the numbers — analyzing assets, income, expenses, tax implications, and settlement scenarios to help you understand what different outcomes actually mean for your financial future. At New Path Planning, we prepare your financial affidavit, build your expense analysis, model settlement scenarios, and deliver a clear financial picture to you and your attorney.
Most financial advisors are generalists — they focus on investments, retirement planning, and wealth management. A CDFA® has specialized training in divorce-specific financial issues: affidavit preparation, asset division, tax treatment of different account types, support calculations, and post-divorce financial planning. Kristi Tidwell holds the CFP®, CDFA®, and TPCP® designations — trained specifically in divorce finances, financial planning, and tax strategy, not a general advisor who occasionally works on divorce cases.
No — and that's actually the point. Your attorney is your legal expert. We are your financial expert. Working together, your attorney can focus on legal strategy while we handle the financial analysis — which typically results in a better outcome and a lower total cost for your case. We do not provide legal advice, prepare legal documents, or represent clients in legal proceedings.
At New Path Planning, flat-fee packages start at $750 for core Form 8.05 - financial affidavit work. Our three tiers are $750, $1,200, and $2,500 — each clearly defined so you know exactly what you're getting before we begin. Additional services beyond your tier are billed at an established hourly rate with no new agreement required. See our full pricing page for details.
Our commitment fee is the upfront payment collected at signing before work begins. For Tiers 1 and 2, this is the full flat fee. For Tier 3, it is $1,200 with the $1,200 balance due at delivery. It is refundable at our discretion if you cancel within five business days of signing.
Form 8.05 is the Mississippi Chancery Court Financial Statement — the financial affidavit required in Mississippi divorce cases. It documents income, expenses, assets, and debts for both parties and is the foundation of your divorce case. Getting it right matters enormously — errors or omissions can affect support calculations, asset division, and your credibility in court. Preparing an accurate, complete 8.05 is the core of what we do.
Settlement scenario modeling shows you side by side what different settlement choices actually mean for your financial future — before you agree to anything. Keeping the house versus taking the retirement account, working versus not working, different support amounts — we model multiple outcomes so you can make an informed decision rather than guessing. This is included in Tier 2 and Tier 3.
The earlier the better. It is ideal to contact us when divorce is first being considered — before major financial decisions are made. However, we can add value at any stage of the process, including after a decree is final for post-divorce planning and implementation.
No problem — and no new agreement needed. Additional services are added at your established hourly rate and billed monthly. This is especially common when settlement negotiations take unexpected turns or when new financial information surfaces.
